I am an incoming 1L starting school this fall. On my application I had listed a freelance research job I was working on for my boss from my old 9-5. Basically, my boss offered me this position because I was moving and after the move, I would have access to a specific set of files/records she wanted for a genealogical research project she was working on. We met several times to discuss the project around the start date I listed on the resume, but once I moved, I had a lot of difficulties accessing the records, and COVID has essentially made it impossible now, so my former boss has sadly called off the project.
Since I essentially contributed nothing, and the project is no longer moving forward, I want to remove this position from my resume altogether, but I don't want to run into C&F issues later on. I can't find instructions for a formal removal process on the school's website, and since I'm not technically a student who has completed orientation/met any of the faces behind the names yet, I'm tempted to just email to the school to ask if they can replace or update my resume. But. this feels a bit informal considering that my application was already accepted and I already committed to the school.
What should I do?

Just email an updated resume, briefly mention that the position fell through and that's why you're sending it. Nothing to over think really
