The son of a Kentucky murder victim has been charged with burglarizing and burning down the house of a man accused of killing his father.

Daniel Edwards, 36, and Travis Marcum, 32, were charged with arson, theft and burglary charges Wednesday, according to Kentucky State Police.

The pair had allegedly used a torch to start a fire at 71-year-old Glenn Powell’s Higgens Hollow Road home in Knox County, just days after he reportedly shot and killed Edwards’ father, 57-year-old Glenn Edwards, according to police.

Daniel Edwards and Marcum broke into Powell’s house while he was in police custody and stole several items, including two vehicles according to police. The residence was then set on fire and left to burn.

Police say the two individuals worked together in committing the crimes. One of the vehicles stolen from Powell’s home was later located at a junk yard, but the other vehicle still hasn’t been located.

Edward’s father was reportedly trying to back out of Powell’s driveway in September 2018 when he became stuck in a ditch, said police. Edwards then left the property to get help, but when he returned with a friend Powell reportedly came out of his residence and shot Edwards in the back, according to police.

After Edwards was shot, his friend returned to the scene with a pistol and exchanged gunfire with Powell, ultimately wounding Powell in the abdomen, according to police.

Powell later surrendered to police and was jailed after he received medical treatment. He is charged with murder and wanton endangerment.

Police are investigating whether or not revenge was a motive in the fire,

"You got a man who lost his life. He's got kids there. Hard to figure out. It's just a bad situation,” said local Roger Stewart who lives and works in the area. “I call it mountain justice, in their minds."

Powell is being held in the Knox County Detention Center where Daniel Edwards is also being held on the charge of setting fire to Powell’s home. There is an order in place to keep the pair apart, according to the Herald-Leader.
